Day 1: Historical Beijing

Start your day with a visit to the iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site -- The Forbidden City. Once the imperial palace for 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is an impressive architectural feat that will take you on an enchanting journey through Chinese history. The palace is usually very crowded, so make sure to arrive early and book your tickets online to skip the line.

Just across the street from the Forbidden City is Jingshan Park. Climb the hill to the top of the park and enjoy the panoramic view of the city and the palace. If you’re lucky, you might even get a glimpse of a traditional Chinese wedding photoshoot.

For lunch, head over to Wangfujing Snack Street, a bustling and lively street packed 北京周边旅游攻略必去景点 with food vendors selling all kinds of local delicacies. Try some of the classic Beijing dishes such as roujiamo (a type of Chinese hamburger) and jianbing (a Chinese-style crepe).

In the afternoon, hop on the subway to the Temple of Heaven. Built in 1420, it is one of the most iconic places of worship in China and a prime example of ancient Chinese architectural design. Walk around the park and witness the locals practicing Tai Chi and other traditional activities.

Day 2: Modern Beijing

Start your day with a visit to Beijing's Olympic Green. This was the location of the 2008 Summer Olympics and is now a public park where locals come to exercise and relax. The two most remarkable buildings are the Bird's Nest stadium and the Water Cube, which you can go inside for a swim.

Afterwards, head to the 7锦州旅游攻略98 Art District, an increasingly popular area featuring modern art galleries, cafes, and studios. The area was once a factory complex in East Berlin style, but now it has turned into a haven for contemporary art lovers. Don't miss the opportunity to witness the creativity of some of Beijing's most cutting-edge artists.

For lunch, try Goubuli steamed buns, a famously delicious Chinese snack that originates from Tianjin. They’re filled with a variety of meats and vegetables, and are great for a quick and tasty bite.

In the afternoon, visit the CCTV headquarters, an iconic building designed by Rem Koolhaas and the Dutch firm OMA. As the headquarters of China Central Television, it's an architectural masterpiece with a unique shape that looks like a giant loop. While you can't enter the building, it's still worth seeing up close.

Day 3: The Great Wall of China

You can’t visit Beijing without exploring the Great Wall of China. The most famous and tourist-friendly section of the wall is Badaling. However, it is often overcrowded and can ruin the experience. We recommend visiting Mutianyu instead, which is just 90 minutes away from the city by car.

Mutianyu is a perfect combination of captivating scenery and well-preserved architecture. You can take a cable car or hike to the top, and then enjoy a leisurely walk on the wall, which is less crowded and has stunning views. Pro tip: If you want to avoid the crowds and take some stunning photos, go early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

In the evening, head to Nanluogu Xiang Hutong, a traditional alleyway filled with boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. Explore the narrow streets and grab a bite to eat at one of the quaint eateries.

Day 4: Cultural Beijing

Begin your day at the world-famous Summer Palace. It's a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design, combining natural scenery with pavilions, bridges, and lakes. Rent a boat and row around the lake while taking in the stunning views.

Afterwards, head to the National Museum of China. This is the largest museum in the country and has a vast collection of ancient artifacts and archaeological discoveries that date back thousands of years. It's a great introduction to Chinese history and culture.

For lunch, head to Gui Street, also known as Ghost Street. This food hub offers a fantastic variety of gourmet street food. Try some of the Chinese stinky tofu or indulge in some fresh seafood.

Finally, head over to the famous Beijing Opera Theatre. Beijing Opera is one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera and is recognized as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO. Experience this unique form of theatre and end your 4-day trip to Beijing on a high note.
