Start your three-day trip in the city center and visit some of the iconic historical and cultural sites in the area. The ideal starting point for your journey is the Forbidden City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Beijing's most famous landmarks. This sprawling palace complex, which dates back to the 15th century, was once home to China's emperors and is a magnificent example of Chinese architecture and design.
Afterward, venture to the nearby Tiananmen Square, the site of many important events in China's history. The square is surrounded by historical monuments such as the Great Hall of the People and the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall. Walk around the square and take in the sights and sounds of the bustling city around you before visiting the National Museum of China, one of the largest museums in the world.
In the afternoon, explore the hutongs, traditional alleyways lined with courtyards, gardens, and shops, in the neighborhoods surrounding the Forbidden City. Many of these neighborhoods are home to artisan shops, teahouses, and traditional Chinese medicine shops.
Take a break from the historical sites and explore Beijing's modern side. Start your day by visiting the Temple of Heaven, a Taoist temple and UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning architecture and beautiful gardens. Take a leisurely stroll through the park and admire the intricate architecture of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests and the Echo Wall.
Next, head to the Olympic Park, the site of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. This park features a number of impressive structures, including the iconic Bird's Nest stadium and the Water Cube aquatic center. Take a guided tour of the park to learn more about the designs and history behind these incredible structures.
In the evening, make your way to the CCTV headquarters in the central business district. This futuristic building, designed by renowned architect Rem Koolhaas, is one of the most striking examples of modern architecture in the city. Take a tour of the building and admire the panoramic views of the city from the top floors.
No trip to Beijing is complete without a visit to the Great Wall of China, one of the world's most iconic landmarks. Take an early morning tour to the Mutianyu section of the wall, located about 70 kilometers from the city center. This section of the wall offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape and is slightly less crowded than other parts of the wall.
After a morning on the wall, head back to the city center and visit the Temple of Confucius. This temple is one of the oldest and most important Confucian temples in China and houses a number of historical and cultural artifacts. Take a guided tour of the temple and learn about the history and teachings of Confucius.
In the afternoon, explore the 798 Art District, Beijing's premier contemporary art destination. This former industrial district has been transformed into a vibrant art community, with numerous galleries, studios, and shops. Take a stroll through the district and admire the works of some of China's most celebrated contemporary artists.
After a full day of exploring, head back to your hotel and enjoy a traditional Beijing-style dinner before returning home.
